Low-cost, weekly water aerobics classes offered for seniors
For Life After 50
Senior water aerobics is offered at Little Fins swimming school at Union Medical Plaza, 1625 Medical Center Point, Colorado Springs, near Fillmore and Union.
Classes take place at 11 a.m. each day of the week for one hour. Participants can come three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), two days (Tuesday and Thursday) or all five. You choose your schedule.
The classes are taught by an experienced instructor who selects the exercises with seniors in mind and because the class takes place in the warm (95 degrees) water, the program is low impact. It is perfect for people with bad hips, questionable knees and all those things we seniors deal with routinely.
The class is free – yes that’s right, free, but there is a $65 monthly charge paid to the pool management. This fee also gives you use of the pool from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. The class is co-ed and takes place in half of the pool, while there are classes in the other half for toddlers and babies. They are so adorable!
The pool has nice changing facilities for men and women with bathrooms and showers. There is an established group of people who have been taking the classes for many years, but they would welcome new participants.
